On
this ever popular island hoping extravaganza, we will tour of the magnificent
landscapes of the Highlands and the remote tranquility of the Islands
of Western Scotland. After calling off at the largest stone circle in
Scotland, near Dumfries we will catch the ferry to the beautiful Isle
if Arran, where we will spend the night at the McClaren Hotel over looking
the beech in Brodick. Machrie Moor on Arran has been described as a Megalithic
Carnival* and a visit to this amazing complex, surrounded by mountains
and rolling hills, makes for a wonderful evening.
On day two we will take our second ferry off the opposite side of the
island in order to discover the 'Valley of the Kings' and the visitors
center, situated in the Kilmartin Glenn. On our way to the Isle of Skye
ferry we will stop off at a location used in the Harry Potter films. Our
base for the next four nights will be Portree on Skye, where we will have
some free time. The complex of sites at Callanish are one of the wonders
of the Neolithic World and we will have a full day exploring these and
other gems on the Isle of Lewis. Our journey to the Outer Hebrides will
again involve ferry journeys and here we will visit one of the best preserved
ancient Broches and will reach our furthest point north at the largest
megalith/standing stone in scotland.
All
this and also a visit to the 'Bonnie Banks of Loch Lommand' on the way
home.
