Orkney & Shetland Isles
CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS------------CLICK FOR 2008 TOUR PHOTOS A Journey over Land and Sea On this exploration of the far reaches of Megalithic Britain we will be taking epic sea cruises far north of the mainland. Our first ferry will be from Aberdeen to Kirkwall on the Orkney Isles, which is the home of some of the most important ancient sites anywhere, including the Great Sacred Monuments of Stenne , Maes Howe, The Ring of Brogar, the Standing Stones of Stenness and many more. We will also visit other Orkney attractions such as the Italian Church, which was created and beautifully painted by Italian prisoners of war. Other visits will include the erie masts of the shipwrecks in the Sound of Holm, an early Christian church, (reminiscent of the Kiels on the Isle of Man) and the Puffin cliffs at Brough Head and more as we traverse the island. For our second sea journey we will board the ferry with plenty of time to take in the restaurant, cafe, bars and sea views before sleeping the night away in the comfortable cabins. In the morning we can watch the approach to our most northerly destination refreshed and ready for a mystical journey. Shetland is our second island treasure trove and we will have a full further two days to explore the ancient sites and other attractions of the island. On returning to Aberdeen we will take in some of the areas famous Recumbent Stone Circles before heading back south. £725 - 6 days (single supplement £45 for land accommodation & sharing cabin with one other on sea crossings) Price includes transport, entrance to many sites on the islands (about £45 worth), 3 nights B&B 3 ferry crossings 2 with overnight cabins. |
