Derbyshire Henges & Stone Circles
CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS OF THE 2004/5 TOURS----CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS OF THE 2006 TOUR On this ever popular day tour we will start with a visit to the Cat and Fiddle tea rooms on the Moors pass, before touring the ancient and mystical sites of Derbyshire. The Peak District has been an area with a distinctly mystical element for thousands of years, with many ancient sites to be found around the landscape. We will visit Arbor Low Henge and Stone Circle, with its outlying man made 'Gib Hill', which is one of the most significant sites in Britain and has been called the 'Stonehenge of the North' and which receives hundreds of visitors every year. On the other hand we will take in the tiny and magical Dol Tor Stone Circle, hiding at the edge of a little known wood. Our lunch break will be in the village of Youlegreave, which was mentioned in the Doomsday Book. When in the White Peak this is great place to take a break and visit one of the pubs and the village church, which dates from Saxon times and contains two interesting tombs in the chancel, one dating from the 13 century, around the time of the Knights Templar. There is also a fine carving to be found in the wall of the Nave dating from the 12th century. As an added bonus we will also call in at the town of Bakewell where they serve the world famous Bakewell Puddings. A find conclusion to this action packed day. Day Tour £29 Proposed Itinerary
